Chess program jmBoard provides universal way to launch chess engines on Java-enabled phones. jmBoard is distributed with GNUChess4JME chess engine derived from GNUChess v5.07/chessbox_gnu4j engine for personal computers. At the moment pondering is completely disabled, so phone will not think at your time and battery consumption will significantly slow.
jmBoard is comppatible with almost any Java-enabled phone or smartphone. Minimal requirements are MIDP 2.0 and JSR-75 profiles. You can install jmBoard for free and then remove if it is not started. jmBoard may not start on phones with limited memory for Java applications. In such cases you may see messages like "java.lang.OutOfMemoryError" or "Low memory". Please respond about successful and unsuccessful launches on your phone. This helps to tune parameters for different phone models.
jmBoard with GNUChess4JME chess engine shows very good level of skills on modern phones with powerful processors. This level may decrease on other phone models.
jmBoard contains one set of classic piece images and board coloring.
At the moment jmBoard chess program with GNUChess4JME chess engine were successfully tested on Nokia 5800 and Nokia E51.
